Meet the team: Simon Dingle (chief executive officer)
We're doing little interviews with the members of our team. This week, it's Simon Dingle, our pathologically optimistic chief executive officer.
What's your job at Lettuce? Formally, I'm the CEO, but I see my job as enabling the Lettuce team; making sure the bills are paid, everyone is happy, and that I'm not getting in their way.
What did you do before joining Lettuce? Before Lettuce I was figuring out what to do next. I had just come out of three fintech startups: 22seven, Luno, and Curve. I was consulting, and geeking out on cryptocurrency.
What would constitute a perfect day for you? Any day that is unpredictably good. I love starting out without a plan and seeing where the day takes me.
Your house, containing everything you own, catches fire. After saving your loved ones and pets, you have time to safely make a final dash to save any one item. What would it be? My backpack. There's very little outside of it that I care about (except people, of course). Even if the backpack went up in flames, I'd just need a cheap, used laptop to get going again.
What are some special skills you have? The thing I'm really good at is hanging out. Given my commitment to not getting in the way, I sometimes need to reign in that skill around my colleagues.
What's your beverage of choice? I love white wine, which I drink with even the most inappropriate meals.
What's one really cool thing you've done (please brag shamelessly)? I was asked to be a guest on what was then my favourite podcast, This Week in Tech with Leo Laporte, who is a pioneer in the space. I got to be one of the guys I used to listen to every week which was mind-blowingly cool.
What excites you about working at Lettuce? The way we work, which is as important to me as what we work on.
