How we do things
We believe that how you do things is at least as important as what you try to do. And who you do things with might be the most important thing of all.
We try to do stuff that’s honest. We don’t hide our business model or try to make money in shady ways. We think it’s better to ask users to pay fairly for things that are of value to them, rather than trying to “monetize” their private data or through mysterious financial wizardry.
We try to remember that we’re building things for human beings. We spend a lot of time thinking about the people on the other side of our products. We care about their experience.
We value bringing our authentic selves to our work. We like to hang out, and we like to play. Play is not fucking around. Sitting in meetings seeing who can talk the most is fucking around.
We are comfortable operating with a high degree of uncertainty. We believe that ongoing planning is very important, but the plan is not.
We do not care about what competitors are doing. If anything, we think it’s useful to be best friends with them and help each other out as much as possible. We support open source projects and contribute to them when we can.
We like the freedom that comes with being a sustainable business that can pay its own bills as far as possible. We don’t really want to spend our lives making pitch decks and wooing bigshot investors. We’re not building for an exit. We’re building the kind of business that we want to work at.
